Peter Doell

Mastering Engineer/Musician

Peter garnered a B.A. in Electronic Music Composition at SUNY Albany (studying there with icons like John Cage and Lejaren Hiller).

Pursuing parallel paths in both music and engineering, he moved to Boston - working in studios, small clubs, and...Symphony Hall (The Boston Pops), while working at Dimension Sound Studio there (The Cars).

Seeking greater opportunity, he relocated to Los Angeles where the recording bug started to metastasize. Initially hired as a technician - but quickly recognized as a talented recording engineer - at Wally Heiderʼs (Eddie Money, Tom Dowd), Sunset Sound (Prince), then Capitol Studios 1983-1999 (Bob Seger, Stray Cats, Miles Davis, Celine Dion, Richard Marx and Frank Sinatra).

Drawn to feature-film scoring at Sony Pictures Entertainment for four years (Black Hawk Down, Monsters, Inc., Rush Hour 2), he ultimately returned to the music world, at Universal Mastering Studios for 12 years (Toto, Tommy Bolin, Ray Charles), then with AfterMaster Audio Labs (Manhattan Transfer, Peter Erskine, Joe Perry) as Senior Mastering Engineer. And currently he is sole proprietor of 21st Century Audio (David Garfield, Jimmy Messina, Greg Adams, Jim Self).

Pete is also the host of the L.A. Audio Lunch Bunch - a weekly gathering of the cream of the L.A's audio community.
